TRANSLATION AND ADAPTATION OF THE ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS IDENTIFICATION TEST (AUDIT) FROM ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO SINGHALA LANGUAGE IN SRI LANKA 2007


This dossier contains a summary of the procedure that was followed in translation, adaptation and validation of the interview version of the AUDIT 10-item questionnaire from the original English to the Singhala, which is the language of the Singhalese ethnic group in Sri Lanka.

This product is the result of the first stage of the research project, named “Prevalence of and Risk Factors for Hazardous Drinking and Alcohol Use Disorders among Married Men”, which was conducted as arequirement for the Doctorate in the Community Medicine in Sri Lanka. The final thesis was presented and accepted by the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006.
