Press Release - Changing the Way We Drink




Major alliance of over 25 organisations launched demanding much more action on alcohol related violence from the Prime Minister and Premiers.

The not-for-profit group the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation has linked up with a huge list of organisations that includes the Australian National Council on Drugs, the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia, the Australian Drug Foundation, The Salvation Army, the Mental Health Council of Australia, the Ted Noffs Foundation, Odyssey House and many, many others to launch the National Alliance Against Alcohol Related Violence.

As part of the launch the alliance is releasing new Roy Morgan research showing concern about alcohol related violence is now bigger than ever. The new research shows close to 1 in 5 Australians have revealed they or someone in their life has been affected by alcohol related violence. Roy Morgan research also shows 14 million Australians are now concerned about alcohol related violence and 10 million Australians are more concerned about the issue of alcohol related violence than they were 3 years ago. Over 10 million Australians say they are concerned about alcohol related violence when visiting licensed premises and entertainment districts after dark.
