France is planning to ban happy hours in bars in a bid to stem the rise of “le binge drinking”, until recently seen as a uniquely British problem.
The government proposals follow calls from doctors and politicians to tackle excessive alcohol consumption.
The cross-ministry report, which was leaked to the press, also calls for a ban on the sale in nightclubs of bottles of strong alcohol, including spirits, and raising tax levels on strong beer.
