ALCOHOL-FUELLED violence has reached "crisis point" with new research revealing that one in five Australians has been affected by the problem.
The figures have prompted a demand for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to take immediate action to combat growing levels of violence outside licensed venues and in the home.
The National Alliance Against Alcohol Related Violence - a coalition of 30 major health organisations, to be launched today - says the Prime Minister's $53 million binge drinking strategy is a "Band-aid" solution.
Instead of "soft" television campaigns the alliance wants Mr Rudd and state premiers to overhaul alcohol taxation policy as a matter of urgency.
