Parents could be banned from giving young children alcohol as part of plans to tackle binge-drinking among teenagers.
Under a law from 1933, adults are allowed to give children as young as five a drink at home.
However, as the Government launched its Youth Alcohol Action Plan yesterday to reduce the growing number of teenagers who are drinking at dangerous levels, ministers hinted that the legislation could be changed. Asked if the age could be raised following a review into safe drinking levels for children, Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, said: "Nothing is ruled out."
