GREENWICH - A former college president spoke last night about his effort to lower the drinking age to 18, which he said would curb binge drinking and alcohol-related deaths among young adults.
John McCardell Jr., president of Middlebury College from 1990 to 2004, said he believes that when the drinking age was raised to 21 in 1984, it gave rise to young adults abusing alcohol in social settings where they had no supervision.
