Alcohol availability a serious problem - group

Alcohol Action Ireland says it welcomes the indication this week from the Minister for Justice of the Government's willingness to address the serious problem of alcohol availability by taking steps to curb off-license opening times.

Alcohol Action Ireland's Executive Director Marion Rackard, said action was needed and she was pleased to hear that tackling the problem might be on the cards.

For many years she said we had seen and heard Ministers pay lip service to the problems of alcohol consumption in Ireland and the effects of that on our society, but she said we needed to see some concrete action.
