Welcome to the 8th edition of PolicyTalk from the Australian Drug Foundation. PolicyTalk provides an overview of topical debates to help senior policy makers find the right solutions for the community on alcohol and other drug issues.

Alcohol and other drug problems in the workplace is the subject of this edition. It may not be well understood that the impact of alcohol misuse alone on productivity is colossal – an estimated cost of over $6 billion per annum. This accounts for the largest single contribution to the toll exacted on the whole community by excessive drinking. For the most part it remains a hidden cost as many businesses are blind to its impact or reluctant to face up to it.
