Public Policy Statement on the Establishment of a Framework Convention on Alcohol Control and the Exclusion of Tobacco and Alcohol from Trade Agreements


The statement re the Establishment of a Framework Convention on Alcohol Control and the Exclusion of Tobacco and Alcohol from Trade Agreements provided the appropriate policy foundation for ASAM to introduce 2 resolutions on this topic on 1) establishing a framework convention on alcohol control and 2) exclusion of tobacco and alcohol from trade agreements at the Annual Meeting of the American Medical Association in June 2007. ASAM had been invited to lead this effort, as a member of the AMA’s preventive medicine section, with which ASAM has long collaborated.
