RECOVERY CONSENSUS STATEMENT
DEVELOPING A VISION OF RECOVERY - A WORK IN PROGRESS

In March 2008 the UKDPC invited a group of 16 individuals to take part in a two-day consensus meeting. The 16 people represented a wide range of perspectives including several people in recovery and family members, as well as individuals coming from services providing the full range of types care and support. This included 12-step approaches, maintenance prescribing, general practice, residential rehabilitation and peer and family support groups as well as service commissioners. Participants also came from different parts of the United Kingdom and different ages and cultural backgrounds.

The aim of the discussions was to identify the common ground and develop a description of the process of recovery from substance use problems which would encompass the wide range of individual experiences of recovery and the differing contributions that treatment and support services make to assisting those in recovery.
